Public Space

A figure-ground diagram illustrates the relationship between built and open space in precincts. Open spaces such as streets, parks, natural features and plazas are represented by white, while  black indicates buildings.

Nolli's map is utilized as a method to identify different types of public realm in students’ precincts.The map is then used to also analyze the degree of ‘public-ness’ basis access restrictions pertaining to gender, time, age and cost.

In the recent years, India's "Gateway to the South" - Chennai, has faced severe reverse migration, particularly from its metropolitan agglomeration. How do livelihood choices and trade-offs influence the social resilience of households in Chennai? On the other hand, Guindy, the city's dense urban hub today, developed from a peri-urban nucleus and is further transforming into a real estate hotspot. Triggered by externalities, the mixed-use transit node�s changing urban fabric and quintessential character has a powerful influence on the socio-economic and livelihood capacity of its residents. What are the implications of this growth for Guindy�s lesser privileged residents?
