Public Space

A figure-ground diagram illustrates the relationship between built and open space in precincts. Open spaces such as streets, parks, natural features and plazas are represented by white, while  black indicates buildings.

Nolli's map is utilized as a method to identify different types of public realm in students’ precincts.The map is then used to also analyze the degree of ‘public-ness’ basis access restrictions pertaining to gender, time, age and cost.

SANJANA BAIDYA

Khalpar is an old and predominantly residential neighbourhood located almost in the centre of the city of South DumDum, West Bengal. Narrow urban streetscapes, low rise residential buildings, several small water bodies and green pockets acting as breathing spaces are the essence of this neighbourhood. The portfolio provides a thorough analysis of Khalpar to understand it's redevelopment pattern and potential as a residential neighbourhood. The area has been mapped on GIS software for detailed analysis. The portfolio comprises several data and analysis based on the primary survey, personal interviews and information collected from the South DumDum Municipality.
