Cities undergoing urbanization, respond to it by accommodating people in existing neighborhoods, or creating new neighborhoods on the periphery of the city. The quality of life in these existing neighborhoods is at question. This effect of urbanization on neighborhoods, can be understood, by analyzing Saidapet, a locality in the central part of Chennai. Amidst industrial and commercial areas and being well connected, makes it a choice of preference for people who come to the city, making it accommodate more than its capacity affecting the quality of life in the neighborhood. So is the case of many neighborhoods in the city!
