Urban Land

Land-use map describes the existing purpose each plot of land serves and the location, distribution and total area of different land uses at the precinct level.

Floor space index (FSI) is an indicator of built density and expressed as the ratio of floor space (Built-up) to the plot area.

Block perimeter is a parameter used to assess the connectivity and accessibility for pedestrian users.

It is a predictor for walking activity.

A figure-ground diagram illustrates the relationship between built and open space in precincts. Open spaces such as streets, parks, natural features and plazas are represented by white, while  black indicates buildings.

Nolli's map is utilized as a method to identify different types of public realm in students’ precincts. The map is then used to also analyze the degree of ‘public-ness’ basis access restrictions pertaining to gender, time, age and cost.

The precinct can be seen as the result of an intimate understanding of a study area of 1sq km within it. It describes the overall character of the neighborhood and focuses majorly on that character which is most prominently describing the area. The key observations on the development of land use built form of the precinct through spatial relationship diagram, built form matrix, and housing typologies. Moreover looking into the different layer of the analysis it concludes that the built form and land development of the study area that has emerged as a residential area which resulted in the growth of residential pockets. It is seen that in the last 1 years an increase in FSI resulted in redevelopment from the low rise house and mid-rise apartment to high-rise apartments. As the residential building increased commercial retail started developing with other necessary amenities. The high-end quality of modern infrastructure and high end commercial and institutional developments in these areas developed a growth in population density in the western part of Ahmedabad.
